The Palm Bay Professional Firefighters and the City of Palm Bay have been at odds over collective bargaining issues since May 2009.  While your firefighters offered a wage freeze and certain benefit reductions the city has demanded a more significant reduction to include major pension changes, some to firefighters with over 20 years service.  Your Palm Bay Professional Firefighters have been labled by some members of the city council as being greedy and turning a deaf ear to the economic issues facing Palm Bay as a whole.  Nothing can be further from the truth.  Palm Bay Firefighters are not greedy, not unreasonable and certainly are fully aware of the economic issues within our city.  Soon, expected to be during the month of September, our city elected leaders will attempt to "impose" certain reductions which will be devistating to the firefighters and their families.  Please contact us for the full story and after you hear the facts we are certain you will contact our elected body and tell them you support your Palm Bay Firefighters and hope our city leaders do as well.  Call us at 321-723-3036 for the full story.

 TO OUR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS:

Our organization represents the Firefighters within the Palm Bay Fire Department.  We represent the firefighters in labor matters with the City of Palm Bay.  Our views and opinions are not necessarily those of the Palm Bay Fire Department or of the City of Palm Bay.  While we represent the members in labor matters, we also are very involved in public activities.  We sponsor a wide variety of youth sports activities and other scholastic functions within Palm Bay's city limits;  we support the South Brevard Sharing Center with clothing and food drives at various times of the year; we hold an annual Boot Drive for Jerry's Kids and the Muscular Dystrophy Association; and we make a variety of donations throughout the year to local, state and national charities and fund raising events.  We appreciate the support our organization receives from the public.  We are your Palm Bay Firefighters.  Please contact us with questions related to our organization

Here is antoher link to a recent Florida Today article published on April 1, 2010: We ask residents to contact us on this or any issue related to our political situation with our city leaders:

http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20100401/NEWS01/4010313/Palm-Bay-firefighters-bust-OT-budget

We urge all residents to click on the link below, and start around the 1 hour 24 minute mark of the video.  Please see how our Mayor reacts to questions related to a pension ordinance proposed at the Palm Bay City Council Meeting on March 18.  The questions were posed by our Local President.  This organization finds the Mayors actions to be totally unprofessional and uncalled for.  To hear from citizens that our Mayor is running around town telling everyone how he belittled the Firefighters in public is appalling to us.  If anyone has questions or would like an explanation to this, please do not hesitate to contact our business office.  While you are at it, please check the Council Meeting dated April 1 under  "City Council Business" and seek out Councilmember Zonka's propaganda and typical  "greed" comments relating to your firefighters and under "public comments" when your firefighters attempt to defend themselves.
